The commercial radio industry recorded growth in metropolitan advertising revenue of 2.25 per cent for the financial year ended June 2010, to a total of $647.32 million, according to figures released by Commercial Radio Australia. Advertising revenue grew in all five metropolitan markets for the financial year, with the strongest growth recorded in Melbourne. Melbourne recorded revenue of $195.41 million for the financial year, up 3.3% compared to the same timeframe last year; Adelaide grew 2.83% to a total of $61.64 million; Sydney grew 2.21% to a total of $202.49 million; Brisbane grew 1.3% to $103.32 million and Perth grew 0.73% to $84.46 million.

The Coffs Coast is about to get two new radio services. ACMA has made FM frequency 90.7 MHz available for the introduction of the ABC radio service NewsRadio to the local area. More details.

2EC/Power FM Bega Sales ManagerGraham McGillivray has been appointed General Manager at 2NM/Power FM Muswellbrook.  He replacesJoel Gosper who is leaving radio to take up a position as a bank manager.

2Day FM’s Jackie O has apparently signed a deal with New Idea magazine to break the news of her pregnancy with a baby due in December. It's believed she could be paid as much as much as $200,000.  (Source: Sunday Telegraph)

Clarke Sinclair, founder of the3SARadio Training School at St Kilda, passed away in hospital on Sunday after a long battle with cancer. He was 73. Aged just 19, David 'Clarke' Sinclair commenced his landline radio station 3SA from his parent's home on March 27, 1954. Obituary courtesy of Melbourne Observer.  (Editor's note: I was saddened to receive this news this morning.  Only last week I was chatting to Heart FM's David Dalkin and we both wondered how Clarke was doing as we had not been in contact in recent days.  David and I, like so many other Victorians got our start in radio via the 3SA radio school.  We would train 4 nights a week in the city (voice training) and then do a shift with 2 others at 3SA on the weekend or Thursday evening. The Nova Network has announced a change in its national evening line-up. The Action Battle Team withMaz Compton, Matt Saraceni and Dan Debuf (formerly on from 10-12pm weeknights) will move to the 7pm slot as The Virgin Mobile Download with The Action Battle Team . The Nova Top Ten, with hosts Kent “Smallzy” Small, Michelle Anderson andJames Kerley will move to the 10-12pm slot. Dean Buchanan, Group Program Director at dmg Radio Australia said; “We’re playing swapsies with our nights teams so listeners continue to hear great fresh new content.”

Digital Radiostations will not need to play a minute of Australian music after the Australian Communications and Media Authority agreed to waive the rules that apply to regular stations. Full story.

FM103.2 was delighted to reach their June Appeal target of $590,000.  Sydney's Christian radio station ended the month of June with a tally of $623,849.More details.

Peter Holden is now working back working fulltime in his home town of Melbourne forMedia Company Radio Release.

ARN chief executive Ciaran Davis has announced:  "A new role of ‘National Content Director’ within ARN has been created and will replace the current position of ‘Group Programming Director’. Duncan Campbell has been appointed to this new position. Duncan is returning to Australia after 8 years in the UK having held senior programming positions withG-Cap, the GWR Group and most recently as Regional Program Director with theBauer Radio Group ."

Natalie Brooks has left her production position at Sea FM/Gold 92.5 Gold Coast and headed to NOVA 919 Adelaide.Gary Warne is her replacement.  Gary was formerly working forMetro Radioin Singapore.

Gordon Rothery (The Reverend), a radio veteran of 40+ years, was farewelled at Rookwood Cemetery in Sydney on June 30.  The chapel was overflowing and filled with family, friends and many radio buddies who he had worked with over the years. Gordon passed on June 22 of a heart attack.  Gordon made his mark in sales and creative and had worked at4GY, 2LT, 2LF, 2WL, 2SM, 2GB, 2KY, amongst others and more recently contributed many voluntary hours over 10 years at community station 2MCR .

Paul "PJ" Seidel , former radio jock ( Fox FM, Star & Hot FM Networks) is now head of company Big Mouth Media Pty Ltd, providing voice overs and audio production for all mediums.  He is joined by Jason Hedges, who has come from a management background to support administration.  www.bigmouthmedia.com.au
